How it works
-
Portraits are easy to commission wherever you live, as they are drawn from photographs that you provide by mail or email.
-
I will be able to let you know if the photograph is clear enough for me to get a good likeness if you send it to me, with no obligation to purchase.
-
Once you have provided your photograph(s), I can discuss portrait options with you. This could include head and shoulders, head and torso or a full-body portrait.
-
You will be able to choose a mounted framed or unframed portrait. Please note that framing can add to the delivery time.
-
I can let you know my availability, completion and delivery date.
-
If you decide to go ahead, a £50 deposit secures your booking. To do this, go to my 'shop' page and purchase a 'deposit for a commissioned portrait'. This deposit will be deducted from your final purchase price.
-
I will draw an original graphite pencil portrait based on your photographs and let you know when it is finished.
-
Of course you would like to see the portrait before final payment and I will share it.
-
Once final payment is received, I will post the completed portrait to you, securely packaged, via Royal Mail Special Delivery, guaranteed by 1pm (next day after posting).
-
Any hard copy photographs you provide will be returned in original condition with your unique hand-drawn portrait.
Tips for photographs
My aim is to produce a beautiful image that you will cherish for a lifetime. This relies on having a good quality reference photograph. Here are some handy tips:
-
Provide clear photographs that are close enough that I can see detail or so that I can zoom in to accurately see specific areas.
-
Provide more than one photograph, if possible, so I can gain a better sense of the person or pet.
-
Sometimes unposed photographs can result in interesting portraits if they are sharp. For example, a child playing or people laughing.
-
Use a photograph that captures that person or pet in the way you see them.
-
If you require a portrait of the face and shoulders, photographs taken at eye level work very well.
