How it works

  1. Portraits are easy to commission wherever you live, as they are drawn from photographs that you provide by mail or email.

  2. I will be able to let you know if the photograph is clear enough for me to get a good likeness if you send it to me, with no obligation to purchase.

  3. Once you have provided your photograph(s), I can discuss portrait options with you. This could include head and shoulders, head and torso or a full-body portrait.

  4. You will be able to choose a mounted framed or unframed portrait. Please note that framing can add to the delivery time.

  5. I can let you know my availability, completion and delivery date.

  6. If you decide to go ahead, a £50 deposit secures your booking. To do this, go to my 'shop' page and purchase a 'deposit for a commissioned portrait'. This deposit will be deducted from your final purchase price.

  7. I will draw an original graphite pencil portrait based on your photographs and let you know when it is finished.

  8. Of course you would like to see the portrait before final payment and I will share it.

  9. Once final payment is received, I will post the completed portrait to you, securely packaged, via Royal Mail Special Delivery, guaranteed by 1pm (next day after posting).

  10. Any hard copy photographs you provide will be returned in original condition with your unique hand-drawn portrait.

Tips for photographs

My aim is to produce a beautiful image that you will cherish for a lifetime. This relies on having a good quality reference photograph. Here are some handy tips:

  • Provide clear photographs that are close enough that I can see detail or so that I can zoom in to accurately see specific areas.

  • Provide more than one photograph, if possible, so I can gain a better sense of the person or pet.

  • Sometimes unposed photographs can result in interesting portraits if they are sharp. For example, a child playing or people laughing.

  • Use a photograph that captures that person or pet in the way you see them.

  • If you require a portrait of the face and shoulders, photographs taken at eye level work very well.
